Newcastle Blog Meet!

Last Saturday, Novocastrian blog/zine, 'Newcastle Mirage' ran what was probably the first Newcastle Blog Meet. So that all the folks from around Newcastle and the Hunter Valley could come together, bond and chat about their craft. Also try cold pressed coffee, drink beer, and do crafts.

I was a bit nervous about attending not knowing anyone, though I am trying to be braver in doing things myself/alone. But just as I'd planned to actually attend solo, my good friend Emily stepped in last minute to accompany me. Who was a perfect partner, as she's incredibly chatty and extroverted and made everything much easier.

The Blog Meet was at this cool building called The Commons, which had a cafe and lots of assorted vintage memorabilia. Books, plants, instruments, vintage furniture, cushions, there was even an organic grocer in the corner which was completely random. The place is owned by the church next door and is available for occasional rent with a donation. It was a really nifty place!

We all wrote our blogs on our little pieces of cardboard when we arrived, and got photos with them.
Then we filled out little surveys about our blogs and where we wanted to go with them and other questions like what animal would you like to be and also what candy bar. I chose Dragon + Twirl.

We got visited by the super cool and well dressed Common Fix Cold Brew duo, who create and sell cold pressed coffee. They let us sample their wares, in the form of Coffee cocktails while we chatted amongst ourselves.

Emily being quality at crafts.
Finally we did crafts, that involved drawing with sharpies on a ceramic mug. A clever DIY, which after you decorate your mugs with sharpies you can bake them at 180 degrees celsius for 10 minutes and it makes the image permanent! (don't scrub it though!) I just wrote my blog name on mine, but Emily drew the man who is in the picture on the wall (first photo above).  Talent.

While crafting, we munched on cookies that Hello Naomi had baked, and they were so yummy!
Hello Naomi actually also made the Wedding Cake for Josh's sister's wedding seen here.

Overall it was a lovely afternoon activity and I would totally be keen to go to more blogger meet ups in the future. Hopefully next time there will be even more people in attendance!
