I've been MIA, slacking off hard on my blogging and instagramming of late and I don't even have that good of a reason. Life got in the way. It seems like it's changed quite a bit from where I was when I returned from Hawaii. I guess you just never know where life is going to take you.
All of these changes have only been in action for a bit over a month so far so I still haven't sorted out a proper routine. Well I was getting pretty close until I got the flu about a few weeks ago. That backtracked a lot of my progress which is pretty annoying but I've got to keep moving forward.
From the 15th to the 24th of January this year I was in Hawaii! Which you would have seen if you've been following me on instagram. We flew straight from Sydney to Honolulu where we would spend our first two days, before hopping over to Maui for four days, and then back to Honolulu for the final two before flying home!
I'd never been to Hawaii before and it was interesting going on a kind of tropical island holiday where English is the main language, as Hawaii is a US state. I was really keen to do a bit of an explore around the islands, but mostly to just veg out by the beach or pool and get a tan.
We were lucky enough to get upgraded to Business Class on our flight there as well, which was super nice and something I've never done before. It was great to have it on the flight there as it was overnight so we arrived reasonably well rested.
The Scandinavian trend is one that has come onto the scene in recent years and is yet to leave, which I am eternally grateful for, as this unique style is visible in many aspects of my own home. The pieces effortlessly strike a balance between simple and remarkable, standing out as statement pieces yet working alongside other items seamlessly.
Scandinavian influence is present in so very many modern homes nowadays. Almost all newly renovated homes that I have explored during my time spent house hunting have been furnished in Scandi décor. If they weren't, they were behind the times and it became clear to me that it was a style choice that affected people's first impressions of homes.
Me? I'm keen to add more of this style into my home as we renovate and refurnish all different areas.
Here are five of my favourite basic Scandinavian style pieces from Icon by Design, a beautiful Australian furniture store who have only very recently opened a flagship store in Sydney!
I'm not going to lie, the amount of times I put off going to get groceries until it's way too late and then I can't be bothered and I just eat snacks or toast for dinner. Well that happens too often. If you thought that was oddly specific that's because it's true. Having a recipe picked out for me and the ingredients already in my fridge is the best and also kind of the laziest thing ever and I love it.
I'd briefly heard about the Australian HelloFresh quite a bit before I decided to give it a go. Well I'd never even considered getting it until I talked to someone who personally got the boxes delivered to them. The concept is simple.
Each week three meals worth of food and their corresponding recipes are delivered to your door. Dinner for the week is sorted. The meals change every week and they give you all the ingredients you need except for things like cooking oils and eggs if you need them for the meal.
A sure fire way to waste your day away is by starting it off poorly. Rolling out of bed way too late, browsing Instagram, Facebook & Quora which uses up way more time than you would generally assume. Even though you always do it and that always happens.
A good morning routine means you'll kick procrastination in the butt and start off your day right. I also find that knowing I have a routine set in place of a morning helps me to roll out of bed and not snooze the alarm one more time. I can't possibly fit everything in if I only leave myself 30 minutes.
One of my New Year's Resolutions was to fix up my sleeping pattern. I want to be in bed by 11pm and out of bed at 6.30am. I've managed to get a hold of waking up, but I just can't get my ass into bed by 11. I can't wake up early and be a functioning adult if I'm only getting 6 hours of sleep.
Especially if I'm trying to increase my fitness levels. Not getting enough sleep is a great way to feel sluggish and gain weight.
So here's what I do every morning to get me started for the day.
I get it, the year has only just begun so everyone is fully committed to the goals they have made so far. Gym memberships spike in December and begin a sharp decline just after New Years as people guiltily confirm with themselves that they were never going to go.
