2017 - Resolutions Results

28 Dec 2017

Let me just start off by saying, 2017 was a bit crazy but overall really great. I had a good time and I'm looking forward to whatever 2018 wants to throw my way.

I did pretty poorly with this year's resolutions but I sort of have an excuse. I started off the year after having quit one of my two jobs. I was looking at 2017 as a time I would be working 3 days a week in a casual position at my current job. But I was actually given a full time position in May. Which threw some of my resolutions off as I thought I would have more time.

Anyway, have a read. See how I went and read whatever my excuses are for why I didn't do what I wanted to.

5 Things I Want for Christmas (that Santa's not bringing)

21 Dec 2017

In other words this is a wishlist of things that I want that are either too expensive or are otherwise just not going to happen. I mean I have been really good. Well mostly. Let's not stuff around, here's my list. I'm not saying this for sure, but my life would totally improve if I had these items in my life.

I'm kidding but can I still have them?

Newcastle Fashion Weekend

24 Nov 2017 Darling St, Broadmeadow NSW 2292, Australia

I live in Newcastle. A not so small town, two hours North of Sydney. It's on the coast and it has many a great cafe, restaurant and boutique. It's becoming more well known which is what we aim for. Really putting the place on the map.
Hosting great events is one way to help this, enter Newcastle's first annual fashion weekend.

Newcastle Fashion Weekend was produced to do exactly that. To fill the missing void of fashion events in Newcastle and it certainly made a start.
Hosted at the Newcastle Jockey Club, more than a thousand fashion loving folk flocked to Newcastle to watch a showcase of Aussie designs on the runway.

It was a day not to be missed.

Decorating with Printiki

14 Nov 2017

I am always seeing the nicest inspiration pictures on pinterest of ways to decorate with polaroid pictures. They're always awesome and often involve a lot of polaroids. The one drama with recreating this is that a polaroid camera and individual polaroids are so expensive. Much more so than regular photos.

In comes Printiki, with an affordable as heck way to fill your home with polaroid style photos.
Hardly anyone actually prints out photos anymore, what with iphones able to carry an entire life's worth of photos on it. No one needs to look through your photo album when they follow you on instagram.

But photos are still a great way to decorate! Which was why i was so keen to try out Printiki.

Pieces from Jewellery Box

5 Nov 2017

UK online store Jewellery Box recently sent me two pieces that I picked out of their online collection.

I picked these lovely threader earrings with arrows on the end as well as a small stack of rings.

I love how you can thread the earrings through more than one pierced hole. It’s such a dainty piece that goes along nicely with any other earrings you may have. I am always swapping out my earrings so having a little threader in was a nice way to change it up.

NFW: My Fashion Weekend Outfit

13 Oct 2017

I stirred on the question what was I going to wear to the Newcastle Fashion Weekend event for way too long. I picked out a lot of Australian designers and beautiful pieces that I would love to wear to such an event. But in the end the pieces on my salary weren't exactly viable options.

So I set about to create a Fashion Weekend worthy look on a bit of a budget.

Polkadot Love with Shein

2 Oct 2017

I grabbed this really cute button up from Shein and it's just a dream! Such a breathable fabric and looks so cute tied up at the bottom. I recently wore it to the opening of Holey Moley as it's so easy to dress up or down.

Holey Moley - Charlestown Square

27 Sep 2017

You already know I love checking out new places around my city (Newcastle). So when I was invited to the opening night of Holey Moley I was keen as a bean.

Holey Moley is a Golf Club. It's mini golf with a twist. You drink you putt. Walking around and through the maze of cleverly designed holes on the course. They're mostly all designed with well known pop culture references, that you are sure to recognise.

If you love having a fun night out in your city, you'll want to see this!

NFW: Steal Her Style

23 Sep 2017

Newcastle's first Fashion Weekend is just weeks away and we're all scrounging to put together our most fashionable outfits to wear to the event.

But unless you're being given an outfit, and paid to attend you might not have the most high fashion styles ready to go in your wardrobe.

That's where I come in! I've picked three outfits off babes around the fashion scene, and have found exactly what you need to recreate it, on a budget.

NFW: Fashion Week Style Icons

10 Sep 2017

For the very first time, my hometown Newcastle, NSW is getting it's very own fashion event! Newcastle Fashion Weekend.

It's coming to you this October and I'm very excited to attend and see all the beautiful outfits and trends that will be on show there.

To help get you keen for the upcoming Fashion Weekend, I've put together a little collection of the babes I always look forward to seeing styled the most!

These ladies are always front and centre at fashion events and dressed to the nines.

How to Survive Your First Time in a Fitness Class

26 Aug 2017

I had never been to any kind of fitness class before joining the gym this year. In fact I was rather terrified of going. While doing a trial to see if I wanted to join the gym and pay the weekly membership fee, I knew I wanted to see if I would feel comfortable participating in a variety of aspects of the gym, before I signed up.
Otherwise I knew the fee and contract wouldn't be worth it.

I plucked up the courage and went to my first gym class, a 6am weights class. Which I loved! I now go to at least 3 of these classes a week and it makes up the majority of my exercise and time at the gym.

Making the first step into a class is no small feat.

So here are some things that I found helpful when going to a fitness class for the first time.

Hey Zeus

5 Jul 2017

I'm so excited to talk to you about Newcastle's newest lunch joint. Not just because I've wanted a place where I could walk into and grab a wrap or a salad on the fly, for a long time now. But because this place is frikkin' cool. The design, the set up, the entire concept of Hey Zeus is really rad, and after reading this you'll want to check it out.

Trust me.

Empire Coffee Co

28 Jun 2017 2/1 Honeysuckle Dr, Newcastle NSW 2300, Australia

I've wanted to visit Empire Coffee Co for ages, and it has actually moved twice and expanded a lot since it originally opened. It has now made it's way to Honeysuckle. I had no idea where in Honeysuckle, which was made apparent this morning when I walked around 5 minutes past the cafe.
But I made it back eventually, to have breakfast.

I was slow to join the Star Wars fandom, but I have now seen all the movies and I do thoroughly enjoy them. Nowhere to the extent of that of my breakfast buddy, Tilly, who is born on May the 4th which may contribute to her somewhat unhealthy obsession.

6 Months as a Vegetarian

23 Jun 2017

I made it one of my new year's resolutions this year to finally become a full and proper vegetarian. I rarely ate meat as it was and I've always been a lover of animals, so it just made sense to finally make the commitment and give up meat for good.

Now I'm vegetarian, and not vegan so I still eat milk, cheese, eggs and other "animal products". That said I always drink soy milk, and only have that in the house. I believe every little bit counts.
I just wanted to share my experience so far on going meat free.

3 Outfits with Tobi

10 Jun 2017

I haven't been loving this cold as all heck weather and non stop rain. It's really making my outfit choices suffer, as I'm mostly just wearing a whole bunch of layers and my style has gone out the window.

Tobi.com asked me to pick some pieces to style and I did so gladly! You might have seen me trying these on and unboxing it a little while ago on my instagram story.

So here is how I have chosen to wear all of the pieces!

How to be a Good Customer

22 May 2017

...in a Clothing Store

We're all customers at one point or another, and maybe we're all jerks sometimes too. But I'm uncertain. Do people who are shitty customers, know that they are being shit?
Do they honestly think they are being polite and acting as all regular humans do?

It's a question that plagues me in my day to day of working in retail. I've seen all the memes that are thoroughly enjoyed by fellow workers. We are all dealing with the same sorta shit day after day.

So here's a handy guide, on how to be a good customer in a clothing store.

3 TV Shows That Kept Me Occupied

12 May 2017

I go to the cinema to watch movies, but it's rare that I'll pop on a movie to watch at home. What I will watch though are tv shows. I keep track of every tv show I'm watching and I'll watch some week to week, and others I'll hoard until I can binge watch them in one go.

Don't get me started on Netflix. If only every show were on Netflix instantaneously. Wouldn't the world be a better place. I think so.

You can trust my recommendations here, I watch a lot of TV. Imagine me giving you a trusting gaze right now. I know my tv shows so here's three that have kept me busy this year.

An Instagrammers Guide to Moving Out

6 May 2017

I've been hinting at this post coming soon for ages but it's finally here! My instagrammer's guide to moving out!

Where Did You Go?

19 Apr 2017

I've been MIA, slacking off hard on my blogging and instagramming of late and I don't even have that good of a reason. Life got in the way. It seems like it's changed quite a bit from where I was when I returned from Hawaii. I guess you just never know where life is going to take you.
All of these changes have only been in action for a bit over a month so far so I still haven't sorted out a proper routine. Well I was getting pretty close until I got the flu about a few weeks ago. That backtracked a lot of my progress which is pretty annoying but I've got to keep moving forward.

So do you want to know where I've been?

Aloha Hawaii

20 Feb 2017 Waikīkī, HI 96815, USA

From the 15th to the 24th of January this year I was in Hawaii! Which you would have seen if you've been following me on instagram. We flew straight from Sydney to Honolulu where we would spend our first two days, before hopping over to Maui for four days, and then back to Honolulu for the final two before flying home!

I'd never been to Hawaii before and it was interesting going on a kind of tropical island holiday where English is the main language, as Hawaii is a US state. I was really keen to do a bit of an explore around the islands, but mostly to just veg out by the beach or pool and get a tan

We were lucky enough to get upgraded to Business Class on our flight there as well, which was super nice and something I've never done before. It was great to have it on the flight there as it was overnight so we arrived reasonably well rested.

Scandinavian Style with Icon By Design

5 Feb 2017

The Scandinavian trend is one that has come onto the scene in recent years and is yet to leave, which I am eternally grateful for, as this unique style is visible in many aspects of my own home. The pieces effortlessly strike a balance between simple and remarkable, standing out as statement pieces yet working alongside other items seamlessly.

Scandinavian influence is present in so very many modern homes nowadays. Almost all newly renovated homes that I have explored during my time spent house hunting have been furnished in Scandi décor. If they weren't, they were behind the times and it became clear to me that it was a style choice that affected people's first impressions of homes.

Me? I'm keen to add more of this style into my home as we renovate and refurnish all different areas.

Here are five of my favourite basic Scandinavian style pieces from Icon by Design, a beautiful Australian furniture store who have only very recently opened a flagship store in Sydney!

Cooking with HelloFresh

27 Jan 2017

I'm not going to lie, the amount of times I put off going to get groceries until it's way too late and then I can't be bothered and I just eat snacks or toast for dinner. Well that happens too often. If you thought that was oddly specific that's because it's true. Having a recipe picked out for me and the ingredients already in my fridge is the best and also kind of the laziest thing ever and I love it.

I'd briefly heard about the Australian HelloFresh quite a bit before I decided to give it a go. Well I'd never even considered getting it until I talked to someone who personally got the boxes delivered to them. The concept is simple.

Each week three meals worth of food and their corresponding recipes are delivered to your door. Dinner for the week is sorted. The meals change every week and they give you all the ingredients you need except for things like cooking oils and eggs if you need them for the meal.

My Morning Routine

16 Jan 2017

A sure fire way to waste your day away is by starting it off poorly. Rolling out of bed way too late, browsing Instagram, Facebook & Quora which uses up way more time than you would generally assume. Even though you always do it and that always happens.

A good morning routine means you'll kick procrastination in the butt and start off your day right. I also find that knowing I have a routine set in place of a morning helps me to roll out of bed and not snooze the alarm one more time. I can't possibly fit everything in if I only leave myself 30 minutes.
One of my New Year's Resolutions was to fix up my sleeping pattern. I want to be in bed by 11pm and out of bed at 6.30am. I've managed to get a hold of waking up, but I just can't get my ass into bed by 11. I can't wake up early and be a functioning adult if I'm only getting 6 hours of sleep.
Especially if I'm trying to increase my fitness levels. Not getting enough sleep is a great way to feel sluggish and gain weight.

So here's what I do every morning to get me started for the day.

Keeping Fit This Year

5 Jan 2017

I get it, the year has only just begun so everyone is fully committed to the goals they have made so far. Gym memberships spike in December and begin a sharp decline just after New Years as people guiltily confirm with themselves that they were never going to go.
