4 Fun Water Activities for Your Next Vacation

2 August 2019

Camping, city sightseeing, and lounging in resorts are all for landlubbers. If getting out onto the water is more like your kind of thing, there are plenty of fun ways you can enjoy your travels by getting up close and personal with the big, blue, wet stuff.

If the sea doesn't work for you, there are hundreds of activities and holidays to try out on lakes, rivers, and other various bodies of water. Anyone who has an affinity for water should explore the possibilities offered to them when they consider taking their travels either in or on the water.

Cruises

Traditionally, cruises have mainly been the domain of over 60s and the retirement community. This is probably because it's a relaxing way to travel and a great way to see lots of different places in one trip. However, recently, cruises are becoming more popular with a younger crowd. The great thing about cruises is that there are many possibilities. They come in different sizes, take place in very different regions of the world, and offer different perks and benefits. Some are ocean cruises, while others are river cruises such as the Brisbane River cruises. Some are on colossal cruise liners, while others are smaller and more intimate experiences. You can go anywhere from the Caribbean to Scandinavia.

Sailing Holidays

If you like the sound of holidaying on a boat, but a cruise ship isn't for you, you could consider a sailing holiday. You can go on a smaller boat and have more control over where you go. If you go sailing, you could learn to sail, or you have the option of hiring someone to do it for you, while you sit back and relax. You don't have to go far for a fantastic sailing holiday. If you want to go further afield, the Caribbean has some brilliant sailing opportunities too, such as the British Virgin Islands.

Canal Boating

Fancy being in control of your own boat without needing to learn to sail or hire a skipper? Canal boating is a more relaxed way to spend your holiday on the water. You can do it all over the UK, on their extensive network of canals, or you can try somewhere else, like France. Whether you choose to hire a boat for a weekend or for a couple of weeks, it's a relaxing way to take in your surroundings - and stop off at plenty of traditional British pubs along the way.

Adventure and Sports on and in the Water

If you're more of an adventurous type, there are many ways you can enjoy a watery holiday. You might consider trying out some paddling by getting into a canoe or kayak or perhaps even having a go at stand up paddleboarding or white water rafting. You can also go on wild swimming holidays, or spend your time snorkelling or diving. You'll find opportunities to do these things all over the world.

When you're feeling a little land-locked, get out on the water and find a new perspective. It gives you lots of exciting ways to travel.
