Best Tips For Staying Fit During Lockdown

21 February 2021

Due to the fact that gyms are closed and outdoor recreation in many nations have been restricted, the lockdown has left many of us feeling unhealthier than ever. Those who liked fitness and frequently went to the gym or for a run haven't had the opportunity to keep up the habit! Nevertheless, while lockdown is still in place for many nations around the globe, and others with strict restrictions in place, it doesn't mean you can't keep your fitness levels up! Whether you're limited to the four walls of your house, or you're able to venture out for a workout, take a look at these ideas on how to boost your fitness levels - even on lockdown!

Turn housework into a workout

Why not kill two birds here with one stone? Deep cleaning can burn off loads of calories in your home! Pop on your workout gear, pump up your favourite tunes, and thoroughly clean your home! You will not only get your heart rate pumping, but you will have a beautifully clean home to relax in later on! Burn those calories by turning housework into a workout through those mundane chores!

Utilise your garden

If you are fortunate enough to own a garden, then you should also consider using it for your workouts! This may obviously depend on the size of your garden, or even obstacles in the way, but from yoga (in the warmer weather) to testing your beep test levels for stamina workouts, you can do all kinds of workouts in your garden.

If your garden is not going to be optimal for exercise, then by doing some gardening, why not burn some calories? Whatever gets your heart rate going will help keep your fitness levels up! Mow the lawn, pick out weeds, or even trim the hedges.

Get a resistance band!

While you may not be able to go far, it doesn't mean that your exercises are going to be boring. If you really want to feel the burning from your workouts and see some improvements in your body physically, then why not invest in resistance bands? A simple resistance band will boost your workout and help you see noticeable results after only a few weeks! Not only that, they're efficient pieces of exercise equipment that won't take up much space in your home, are easily transportable, and don't cost much to buy! Resistance bands are also perfect for strength training, so you can easily do that at home if you're trying to focus and tone a certain part of your body!

Look at what you’re putting in your body

It’s easy to reach for the treat cupboard, especially when you’re at home more than you used to be! While a biscuit or two may not seem harmful, over time this can lead to weight gain and unless you’re trying to gain weight, it’s not going to do you any good.

Try keeping a food diary for a few weeks to see what you’re actually consuming each day - you may be surprised! Once you can see where you’re going wrong, you can make conscious changes to your diet and lifestyle.

If since the pandemic struck gorging on sweets and treats, is one of the reasons your fitness levels have dropped, then do something about it! It's all too easy to have a doughnut or two if you're working from home, which can lead to fast weight gain if you're not careful. Hide sweets from plain sight, or maybe don't purchase them!

Concentrate on other bad habits

There are other bad habits that you do that could affect your fitness levels. Things like regularly consuming alcohol and smoking can have highly adverse effects on the body. Every now and then drinking alcohol is fine, but try to stop binge drinking and plan to only have a glass or two at a time. That way, the body has time to recover from alcohol consumption without any side effects. And, not to mention your ability to enhance your fitness levels, we don't even need to remind you how bad smoking is for your health.

Get plenty of sleep!

This may seem a little backhanded, but hear us out. Sleep helps your body recover from the previous day, relax and rejuvenate. Not getting enough sleep is also likely to demotivate you from workouts! Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep at night so you can wake up feeling refreshed and ready to continue with your fitness journey during this pandemic!
