A Quick Review: Into the Woods

I'm listening to the soundtrack for this movie right now as I write this review if that tells you anything. I personally thought that the trailer didn't offer up much at all, I knew that I would probably watch it eventually as it was Disney and filled with many celebrities that I love watching.

It was only after I found out that it was a Broadway musical made into a film, and that it had already been nominated for a Golden Globe for Film of the Year, I decided maybe this movie would actually be worth seeing in cinemas.

Such star studded films can either be a hit or miss. Almost everyone has reasonably equal screen time, movie stars mixed in with Broadway stars. Each holding their own against the other. Emily Blunt & Chris Pine showed off their amazing voices, to really no one's surprise. Most celebs can sing can't they?

This movie is charming and amusing. I told my partner that it was a musical whilst we were in the car on the way to the cinema and he groaned with "Agh I didn't know that." But admitted at the end that he loved it, as did I.

There are quite a few adult themes in this film, the original Broadway production was even darker than the movie as Disney already made quite a few changes to the storyline to make it more family friendly. With a lot of the fairy tales staying true to their original roots from The Brothers Grimm. Which are a bit more, well grim, than the Disneyfied stories you may be used too.

Into the Woods kept me entertained the entire way through, and wishing that I could sing along to the music. During all the scenes you can fully tell that it's a Broadway Play turned film, as a lot of the scenes have the layout that of a stage show production.

Emily Blunt & James Corden as The Baker & his Wife
Lilla Crawford as Little Red
Meryl Streep as The Witch
I loved the movie, as you could have probably guessed, I'm still listening to the soundtrack. My favourite song at the moment is probably the slightly creepy "Hello Little Girl" by Johnny Depp & Lilla Crawford.

Cya! xx
