Papa's Bagel Bar

I am still yet to take full advantage of living walking distance to such a large variety of food places and boutiques. But finally having some free time this May, I thought it would be a good time to start.

Papa's Bagel Bar opened early this year. With no lack of competition on eateries in the area, it stands apart as one of the only Bagelrys around. Papa's is tucked into a small side street off of the main Hunter St which only serves to make the rustic style bar all the more cosy.

The open style kitchen means that you can watch the kitchen staff rolling and preparing all the bagels that are made fresh in store. All of the freshly baked bagels means that delicious smells are constantly wafting through the cafe and out onto the street, drawing in new patrons as they walk along Hunter St.

I ordered the Smashed Avocado, with rocket, tomato and shallots. I'm always a big fan of anything with smashed avocado. If you come in expecting traditional New York style bagels, you'll be disappointed as that's not what these are.

Instead of the common chewy, soft baked bagels best known in the states, my original bagel was crunchy and made of sourdough. Definitely a new experience to me as a bagel fan, but I was not upset. The sourdough went perfectly with all of the toppings. The only downfall being (as is with all sourdough) I find it impossible to cut! Even with that gigantic knife. I had to pick up the bagel and bite it, which isn't an issue, but I definitely made a mess. (Sorry staff!)

It was quite different from my regular bagel and smashed avocado breakfast orders, but a welcome change. Completely worth the 10 minute walk from my house. I'll definitely be back to try another bagel from their variety of flavours. Poppy Seed, Chilli Jam, Cinnamon and blueberry, just to name a few.
