I ramble on this blog about a lot of things, and almost none of them are my actual life. So here is a "life lately" post, the first of what might become a semi-regular thing, assuming I ever get up to anything worth writing down.
I'm lucky enough to work with one of my best friends, Tilly, at one of those enormous chain hardware stores. The store just turned one, and to celebrate there was a fancy dress party that basically the entire staff got involved in.
Look how sweet our costumes were. Mine came courtesy of eBay, but Tilly went full method, making her own pokeballs and velcroing them to her belt, then cutting and gelling a black bob into a very convincing Ash Ketchum wig. She is a costume genius. Over the years we've turned up to Twilight covered in glitter and to Harry Potter dressed as Hogwarts students. We take theming seriously.
In actual grown-up news, Josh and I finally tidied the whole house and courtyard and, for the first time since moving in together, had friends over for a BBQ. We'd been meaning to for ages. We have a nice barbecue and a lovely spot for it, and the only real downside was that it was absolutely freezing.
It was so good to finally have people over, especially the ones who still hadn't seen the place. We fired up the BBQ, laid out snacks, put on a Spotify playlist, and everyone turned up with more dips than one household could reasonably eat. We rolled up the rug to save it from spills and foot traffic, then played approximately a thousand rounds of Worms and Injustice on the PS4, plus one deeply revealing game of Cards Against Humanity. If you've somehow never played, get on that. It's an experience, and you will learn things about your friends.
I also got a bench. I'd spotted one my grandparents made for my cousin, commented something along the lines of "wow that's nifty", and now here I am with my very own. It even has a spot for a plant, so obviously I went and found the one with the biggest leaves I could get my hands on. Perfect.
I'm still absolutely loving my new hair, and the denim jacket I wear daily to make up for years of not owning one. I'm fully on board with roll neck sleeveless tops this winter, and my notoriously bad dark circles are still going strong, except in the rare miracle photo where the lighting decides to be kind. I bought an under eye treatment recently and I'm not convinced it does anything, but honestly, do any of them?
