3 TV Shows That Kept Me Occupied

12 May 2017

I go to the cinema to watch movies, but it's rare that I'll pop on a movie to watch at home. What I will watch though are tv shows. I keep track of every tv show I'm watching and I'll watch some week to week, and others I'll hoard until I can binge watch them in one go.

Don't get me started on Netflix. If only every show were on Netflix instantaneously. Wouldn't the world be a better place. I think so.

You can trust my recommendations here, I watch a lot of TV. Imagine me giving you a trusting gaze right now. I know my tv shows so here's three that have kept me busy this year.

Big Little Lies

Waiting for each episode to come out week to week with this show was torture! Luckily there are only seven episodes, and they're all out now so you can binge watch it in one day. I only decided to watch this show as it's so star studded, Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley. That's only a few out of the large cast.

Someone's dead and you don't know who did it or who has died. Intriguing. Go back and watch the lead up events to the murder. I love a good "who dunnit" and this one had me on the edge of my seat!
Honestly you shouldn't need any more convincing than this, one of my favourite shows this year for certain.

13 Reasons Why

I had read this book years ago but I just had to jump on the bandwagon. I didn't want any spoilers, since I mostly forgot the plot.

While many people have stated issues with the show, the show is this years "Stranger Things" in terms of popularity. (Oh my god i just had a thought please don't go as Hannah for Halloween with slit wrists you sick bastard). Place your bets on that being a thing right now!

Moving on, as someone who isn't personally triggered by any of the heavy scenes in the show, eg rape and suicide. I was still deeply upset in a few scenes. Overall I enjoyed it, it was easy to binge watch a lot in a short time.

The Handmaid's Tale

Who has read the book? I haven't but I hear that it's awesome. I've also just realised my three picks are all books! I would have loved if Harry Potter was a tv show, 12 hours to a book? Yes please.

This show is crazy. It's so good, it's so dark and heavy and I just can't look away. I'm only up to episode 5 as that is all that has been released so far but I am hooked!

It deals with so many issues that are just soo close to the shit we have to put up with in 2017 that I've teared up numerous times while watching it. This book was written 30 years ago, yet it's more relevant than ever right now.

I'm a feminist. I could preach it more than I do, but I'm more of a quiet supporter. Though I have all my views that I share with Josh. Stay woke kids. I think this show is so important, I want people to watch it and be like oh fuck maybe women should have rights over their own bodies!

Just today in NSW my state, they voted and decided to keep abortion as a criminal act. So it's against the law to get an abortion in my state. Gay Marriage is also still illegal. Get it together Australia!!!

Watch this show. It is thought provoking and amazing.

What are you waiting for? Hop to it. These TV shows are too good to miss.

I'm currently watching Season 2 of Sens8 on Netflix. Jesus I love this show. I could have easily included it in the list as it's just so great. If you gave up on Season 1, give it another chance, they're just discovering their Sensate abilities so it's a tad slower, but towards the end of season one and all of season two (so far) it's been amazing!

Tell me what tv shows you've been watching in the comments! xx

  1. The Handmaid's Tale is awesome! I am kind of upset after every episode because yes I am a feminist and this just leaves me in awe. Big Little Lies was also very good although I couldn't get in to it at the beginning. It was kind of predictable but I love strong women getting together against men! 13 Reasons Why... well, I've seen the first episode and couldn't get through the second one. I feel like I am going to watch this over the summer but I am not feeling like giving it a second chance right now. Also I don't like that there will be another season of it.
    Great recommendations!

  2. I've also been watching the Handmaid's Tale - it's amazing! Another show I've been watching is Harlots, about sex workers in 18th century London - it's pretty fun haha.

  4. Oh I need to get started on season two of Sense8!! I'm currently binge-watching The Good Wife as Netflix has the whole thing - seven seasons! Which has me a bit worried about how much I'll get done with that many episodes.

  5. Ooh, I didn't realise that all of Big Little Lies was out! Time for a binge session! I've been looking forward to this one ever since I first heard it was getting released. 13 Reasons Why is also already on my to-watch list, but I may have to add The Handmaids Tale to my list now too. Thanks for the suggestions Xx

  6. I've heard so much about all of these and have been meaning to check them all out. I'm definitely more of a wait until the season is done and then binge watch it type of person, so I'll probably do that with The Handmaids Tale. I've been meaning to read that book for about 10 years so maybe this will give me a kick up the bum to do it.
