Hey Vina! - The App for Meeting Friends

20 October 2016

Meeting friends as an adult is hard. You don't truly appreciate how easy it is as a kid until you grow up. I have a memory from kindergarten asking another little girl to play with me and be my friend. Amazing! Starting a conversation as an adult might be alright but moving onto asking them to hang out or be friends is a whole other ball game.

What if I asked someone if they want to hang out sometime or grab a coffee and they don't want to? It's awkward we just stand there, mumble excuses. It's all very stressful, well that's how it is for me.

Enter 'Hey Vina' the new app for connecting women to form friendships. It's all platonic, it's not a dating app though there is a set up similar to that of Tinder but with profile specs for people to view.

Setting Up Your Profile & Finding a Friend

The beginning of your profile includes a photo of you, your name and a little bit about you. You get a vague option to select your age and can put your workplace if you like.

In setting up your profile you get to do two quizzes with the results helping to determine whether you two gals will be a match. Under 'Personality' I've got a coffee cup which means I'd prefer meeting up for coffee than for drinks. 'A Balancing Act' is the answer I chose between whether I live to work or work to live.

The tree and the house mean I'm cool to hang out indoors or outdoors. Ambivert is self explanatory, sometimes I'm really quiet and sometimes I can be super chatty. The sunshine is that I'm more of daytime dweller than a night owl. But I'm usually up late online anyway. Do I prefer making plans or being spontaneous? I'm okay with either, usually.

Planet X is the result from the second quiz but I can't even remember what the questions were to be honest. The rest are self explanatory, but it's a good way to tell if the other babe is going to have similar interests to you.

First you view the profile of the babes and you read about them, and then you get to either pick them or skip them. Which makes me feel kind of mean I must say but it's more like, I'm sure you're a great gal but would we have much in common?

You're acting on the small amount of information that you have. I'm not someone who goes out and drinks so that's probably a main contributor to me skipping someone. Let's go clubbing sometime! No thank you.

Getting a Ditto!

If you get a match it will pop up that you've got a ditto! Another babe has thought you look pretty cool as well! Then it opens up an instant messaging type section between you and that person. This is where I start to sweat and panic a bit. You'd think I'd calm down a tad but it still makes me a bit anxious.

You chat, you get to know the other gal and then if you think it's going okay you make a date! Well a lady date, girl hangs. Coffee or lunch oughta do it. Or drinks if that's more you style. Actually a few wines might help me calm down a bit honestly.

My Thoughts?

I love it! I've been on a lunch date with one lovely gal and a coffee date with another! Friend dates of course. I have a lot more spare time lately, now that I only have one job. I was quite nervous, I'm not going to lie. But it was really nice! Chatting to new people, learning about them asking lots of questions. Getting to tell people about yourself. I think I keep telling my boyfriend the same story over and over. Finally someone new to hear me go on!

Seriously though. Making friends is hard, loneliness is a real thing. Think of Hey Vina as a Buddy Bench for grown ups. You're on there cause you're looking for friends, someone to chat to. You don't have to feel weird about asking people to hang out because literally everyone is on there for that reason.

So seriously, go download Hey Vina from the app store right now, and if you're from my neck of the woods, maybe we'll be a match!

  4. Haha, I feel a little sad for myself, but I'm going to download this app now. I love the idea of friends, but I think I'm just not so great with carrying through... My poor fiance must be sick of me hanging around the house by now!

  5. That is actually such a great idea. I might have a try of it, actually! Even though I'm anxious about talking to new people both online and in real life haha.

  6. Aww, that app is such a cute idea! I remember going through a stage after high school and thinking "wow I only have like 3 friends??" and especially if I moved to a new city or something I'd think about using an app like that. It's a really nice idea because making friends can be hard but at least you know if you're on that app then everyone else on there is also looking for the same thing you are.
