Holey Moley - Charlestown Square

27 September 2017

You already know I love checking out new places around my city (Newcastle). So when I was invited to the opening night of Holey Moley I was keen as a bean.

Holey Moley is a Golf Club. It's mini golf with a twist. You drink you putt. Walking around and through the maze of cleverly designed holes on the course. They're mostly all designed with well known pop culture references, that you are sure to recognise.

If you love having a fun night out in your city, you'll want to see this!

The PR night was pumping! Incredibly busy with everyone excited to play their first round of mini golf. There was so much staff on which is a +1 to them being prepared for how busy it was.
The night was invite only, but as Holey Moley is inside the Strike Bowling building in Charlestown Square it was still filled with regular patrons bowling.

I immediately grabbed some kind of redbull beverage with a lolly filled stirring stick and was keen to check out the place. The PR event definitely acted as a sort of test run of the course. It was very full, with some of the holes taking a lot less time than other which led to congestion in some areas as people waited to move on.

People filled the Upside Down House waiting for the other to finish playing Mouse Trap. As usually you have to book, I'm sure that this won't be as much of an issue on regular nights. Even as busy as it was, it was hardly an issue. Everyone waited patiently and was polite which is good to see.

There are two sides of the mini golf range to play. One begins near the entrance with an Alice in Wonderland themed hole and the other begins near the bowling lanes with a Willy Wonka hole. Complete with a Chocolate tube that sucks your golf ball all the way up, just like Augustus Gloop.

The entire course is filled with quirky photo spots, that you definitely need to complete your insta feed. But the lighting is that of a nightclub. My attempt at a photo on the iron throne was a bust!

Holey Moley is a nice addition to the Charlestown Square South Piazza. While you couldn't spend an entire night playing mini golf here, you could easily hop from bowling to golf to laser tag, whilst noshing on pizza and drinking delicious beverages.

Each hole has instructions on how to play. This one above started off with playing pinball with the golf ball until it rolled out onto the course. Which was a pool table!

No course is particularly hard but it's all about the clever design.

I will definitely be heading back with a handful of friends in no time to have another shot!

  6. Very creative place, I am amazed! I don't have any good place to play mini-golf in my city though I have always wanted to give it a try. Maybe I just need to come to Newcastle :) Thank you for posting!
