How to Make the Most of a Small Kitchen

21 February 2021

It doesn’t matter whether you’re someone that likes to cook all their meals at home or spends most of their money on takeaway food. You need to have a kitchen where you prepare, cook, and serve your meals efficiently and safely.

Some people believe they need a massive kitchen to do those things. The truth is, many folks don’t have the luxury of working out of a large kitchen area. Still, that doesn’t mean you can’t make the most of a small kitchen! Check out these inspirational tips for you to try:

Get Rid of the Junk

Let’s face it: everyone’s kitchens have some appliances or random items that just don’t belong in there. One of your goals is to make the most efficient use of the space available to you in your kitchen, so you need to get rid of anything that shouldn’t be in there.

That means chucking out old or seldom-used kitchen appliances, gadgets, tools, and even things like unwanted cutlery and crockery. You could even make some extra cash by selling those items on eBay!

Make It Easy to Ventilate Your Kitchen

A small kitchen will invariably mean that anything you cook will linger inside for longer or spread throughout the rest of your home. That’s why it makes sense to ventilate your kitchen as much as possible.

For example, get an extractor fan installed that sucks out any cooking smells and vents them into the air outside. It’s also useful for extracting smoke if you accidentally leave something cooking on the stove for too long.

Otherwise, you’ll end up with a stinky kitchen, and in severe cases, you may need to invest in fire & smoke damage restoration for your cooking area!

Be Smart With Your Inventory

It’s always tempting to buy loads of items on special offer whenever you go food shopping. However, what you’ll soon discover is you run out of places to store those items - whether you keep them in your fridge, freezer, or kitchen cupboards.

That’s why you should be smart with your inventory and only buy the ingredients that you need. Always check what you’ve got in stock, and dispose of anything that’s out of date. And get rid of any long-life items that you really will never use.

Cook Meals That Use Fewer Pans

Lastly, you might have visions of creating delicious masterpieces every day, but what happens when your meal ideas require several pots or pans for cooking ingredients? You may think that’s no problem as you’ll obviously wash everything up later.

But, when space is at a premium in your kitchen, and especially if you don’t have a dishwasher, it can make cooking challenging. How you can get around that problem is by cooking meals that use fewer pans!

Many meals can get created using just one or two pans at the most, plus you don’t even need to cheat and use a microwave. What’s more, you’ll cut down on the number of things you need to wash after your meals.
