3 Changes You Can Make At Home That Will Save You Money

23 November 2019

Having a beautiful home to relax in after a hard day at work is beautiful. Our home is our sanctum sanctorum, the place where we feel safe and somewhere that contains amazing memories.

Today we are going to be taking a look at what would happen if we started to make a few changes at home, and how those changes could really save us some money in the long run.

Don’t Throw Away Food.

One of the biggest losses of money for everybody starts with one of those things we all love to do at home; that’s right, eating. Food is one of the biggest causes of cash loss for people all over the world, and while it’s not possible to reduce total food waste, there are a few things you can do to minimise it.

Every year around 1.3 billion tonnes of food gets wasted, and in total that’s worth around £500 billion. The question you should be asking now is how much do you throw away?

One great solution to this is to pre-cook your meals. If you make your lunches in advance and freeze the portions, you will reduce your wastage by a huge amount. Another great time is to freeze what you can. There are items out there like cheese that most people do not realise that you can easily freeze.

While these changes may only seem small, you will be shocked how much money you can save per month on food just by paying attention to your waste.

Take Care Of Those Little Jobs Yourself

Another way people lose a lot of money is on small tasks around the home that can be tackled by pretty much anybody.

Nowadays, there are certain DIY tasks that you shouldn’t ignore, and you should really consider giving them a fix yourself. For example, that leaky tap that is bumping up your water bill doesn’t require a plumber. In fact, if you hop on YouTube, you can have an answer on how to fix it and save yourself around £150.

Simple jobs around the house cost us a fortune, and most of the time, the fix is simple enough to undertake ourselves.

Save On Your Bills

While we mentioned leaky taps in the previous section, it’s important to recognise just how much of a grip you can take on your household bills and doing this can reduce the amount you are paying exponentially.

One of the best things you can do for your home is to install solar panels. Solar panels not only have amazing benefits for our planet, but they can also save you substantial amounts on your home energy bills.

After a settling period, most people who have solar panels state that the saving on their monthly energy bills can be up to 50% which is huge. You should also be mindful of the radiators in your home; they can be costing you money without you even realising.

If you have a radiator with an air blockage, this radiator will constantly try to reach temperature and therefore cost you money. The easy way to tackle this is just by bleeding the air out of the radiator, and after this, you will save yourself around 50 pence per day during the winter months.
