3 Ways To Be More Relaxed At Home

1 April 2022

When you're a working Mum, it can be difficult to spend time with your children at home. In some ways, being a stay-at-home mom is similar; there always tends to be something that has to be done around the house or some chore that needs to be finished. Although you don't want to be stressed and irritable while you have valuable time with the kids, these issues can cause that exact thing to happen.

Unfortunately, even when we try not to, that's how we feel a lot of the time. There are so many demands and pulls on us that we quickly get stressed, to the detriment of both ourselves and our family. So, here are some tips to help you relax at home and enjoy your leisure time more.

Be Prepared

Things will go awry at some point. You may have a dead battery or a blown tyre, which would be highly inconvenient. You may need an urgent babysitter, or you may have a broken pipe in your shower. This is a fact of life that you can't always avoid, no matter how hard you try.

Even during a crisis, having a plan ahead of time will help you cope better. Having a spare tyre in your boot and knowing how to change it makes the situation a lot easier. In the event of an emergency, if you already know where to find a trusted plumber or reliable electrician, you'll be ready to respond swiftly and reduce your stress.

Switch Off Your Phone

When you're among your loved ones, you won't need to check your phone constantly, but it's easy to get into bad habits without even realising it. When you're constantly checking your email or social media accounts, you're not allowing yourself to be totally present in the moment.

Switching off your phone is the best thing you can do. Ideally, you should leave it in a completely separate room. If you would normally use your phone to take photos, get a small digital camera instead. Then you won't even be tempted to check your feeds when you're meant to be spending time with the ones you love.

You'll be less stressed because you won't feel the need to respond to emails or calls, and you won't see anything on social media that upsets you; you'll be a lot more relaxed when you use your phone and social media in your leisure time. Breaking the habit may not be easy, but it will be worth it, offering you more memories and good times than you might have thought.

Have Dedicated Work Times

Everyone works in some capacity. A working mother will have a job, whether it be outside the home or from home. A stay-at-home mom will have chores to perform around the house as well as children to care for.

No matter which group you fall into, balancing work and play will always be challenging, and multitasking, far from increasing productivity, will actually slow you down.

The best thing you can do to avoid stress and trying to accomplish too much at once is to divide your time into portions. You'll have working time and free time, and if you keep them separate, you'll be more productive and be more relaxed.
