Build Your Own Blog Today

28 January 2020

Anyone can start their own blog. It is a brilliant exciting digital world and there are so many people making a living from having a blog, as well as having an online platform to chat about whatever they want, sharing their tips, tricks, likes and dislikes and building a community.

So what exactly does it take to start a blog? Time? Yes, a little but it doesn’t have to be tended to 24/7, in fact, most bloggers have full-time jobs and see blogging as a hobby, so that’s a wonderful place to start. If you’re wanting to make something a little more fruitful out of your passions, then you should look at building your website, from design to its aesthetic and style as well as the topics you’d like to cover.

What is your blog going to be about?

Is your Blog going to focus on travel, beauty, fashion or a real niche topic like specialised DIY? You need to have a clear idea of what you want to write so it makes it easier, you can find the right content for your blog and you can create the right graphics and look for the blog.

Putting ideas into motion

Once you have your ideas set, you then need to create a tangible blog. You will need a space to call your own and choose what platform this will be done on, either Blogger or WordPress, there are a few. Choose a domain name and then you can start designing your Blog. HTML coding is not necessary for most blogs but if you are savvy at it then you can certainly add some extra features to your Blog that others won't have.

Design is key. The way people see your blog and the colours and styles you choose is what will keep people entertained and keep them coming back. What colours and images inspire you? What works well for your blog and what do you like to read. If you enjoy it, then chances are others will too.

What do I need to start a blog?

You don’t necessarily need a lot of money for your blog. There are certain costs that may incur if you really want to take your blog to the next level, but let’s break these down a little further
  • Web hosting fees - if you hire a domain name or a company takes care of your blog for you.
  • Blog design - many designs can be bought and then applied to your chosen platform. They can vary in price and many are free but the ones that look really good are most often not but shop around.
  • Photos (not essential)- you can take photos on your phone for free but if you want to make better quality images, you may need a better camera. Or alternatively, you can buy certain images online but many are royalty-free.
  • Start writing that blog today, and even if you do not have the funds to make it look like Vogue, you can still put out all the creative content you want.
