Protecting Yourself Online

6 February 2020

The majority of us are spending an increasing amount of time online. We’re becoming more dependent on tech, such as laptops, tablets and phones for a number of aspects of our day to day lives! We work online. We socialise online. We shop online. We express our thoughts online. We find information online. You name it, chances are you incorporate your tech and an internet connection somehow! Now, there are so many benefits that come hand in hand with having constant access to the internet. But you also need to be aware that spending more time online puts you more at risk from cyber attacks.
You don’t want others to have access to your documents and files. Believe it or not, someone could potentially find out almost everything about you, just with access to your social media accounts and messages. This information could be used against you in various ways, such as to commit identity theft or financial theft. Cyber criminals could also expose personal information that could damage relationships or status. The good news is that it’s relatively simple to protect yourself when you’re on the web. You just need to be vigilant. The first step towards protecting yourself is knowledge and awareness! The infographic below should help to introduce you to the basics of cyber attacks and vulnerability online. Once you’ve got to grips with the basics, you can then take further steps towards creating a safe space and presence online!
