4 Ways To Pick The Perfect Location When Moving House

13 November 2019

When you decide to move house and you start looking at some potential places, it’s important that you find a house where you feel comfortable. You need to really picture yourself living there and decide whether it feels right or not. But it’s not just the house itself that you need to consider, it’s the location as well.

Even if the house is perfect, you won’t be happy living there if you don’t like the surrounding area. The location has a big impact on the price as well, so you can’t ignore it. These are some of the things you need to think about when trying to find the perfect location.

Your Commute

The first thing to consider is your commute to work. If you can find a great place that is only a short drive from work, you’re in luck. But the further you move away, the more expensive and time consuming it becomes to get to work each day. Even if you save money on the house, is it really worth it if you have to drive an hour each way to work every day? It’s important that you think about the length of commute that you are willing to take on, so you can discount any properties outside of that area.

Local Amenities

It’s also important to consider the local amenities, like shops, that are nearby. If you live in the middle of nowhere, you will have to drive long distances every time you need to go shopping and that can be a bit of a pain.

In some cases, it may be best to look for apartments for sale if you want to be closer to amenities and have a shorter commute. A city centre apartment is going to be a lot more affordable than a house in the same area. If you don’t have a family and you can make do with a slightly smaller space, apartments tend to have better amenities nearby.

The Neighbours

When you are looking around a property, always ask about the neighbours and see how the estate agent reacts. Living with bad neighbours can be tough, and it will make it a lot harder to sell the house in future

The estate agent will not always tell you if there is a problem, but if you set up a few viewings at different times of day, you should be able to tell if they are going to be noisy. If possible, you should knock on the door and meet them so you can get a sense of what they are like.

Crime Rates

Feeling safe in your own home is so important, so you should always check the local crime rates in an area before you decide to move there.

There are a lot of areas where you can get a cheap home, but only because crime rates are high and people struggle to sell. But if you move to a dangerous area, you put yourself at risk, so always check. If you do move into an area with a high crime rate, make sure that you secure your home properly to protect yourself.

If you check these things when viewing a house, you should be able to find the perfect location.
