Creating Comfortable Seating In Your Home

28 October 2021

When it comes to home design, we tend to put a whole lot of emphasis on a host of different areas. We consider everything from colour scheme to storage solutions, functionality, accessibility and much more. It’s not until we start focusing on the final bits and pieces and actually start living in our home that we can realise we haven’t dedicated as much time or attention to the smaller details that we actually use and enjoy on a day to day basis.

One area that tends to get neglected in initial home design stages is seating. When it comes down to it, seating plays a major role in any home. It can provide somewhere for you to kick back and relax, reading a book or watching TV. It can provide you with a way to seat and entertain guests. It can also add a unique look to your rooms, putting a signature stamp on them. Hopefully, some of the following information will help you to see seating in a new light, placing more importance and emphasis on it as a key element of home design!

Sofas

The main - and often most expensive - seating in any home is a sofa. Good quality sofas can be hard to come by, but when you find the one that works for you and your home, you’ll keep it for decades and use it on a daily basis, so it’s more than worth investing in. Shop around to find an option that fits in your space (there are different shapes and sizes, ranging from two seater sofas to L shaped sofas) and matches your design.

You can get plain sofas, a swyft sofa, patterned sofas, bold colours, different fabrics, alternative prints and so much more. If you have children or pets, you may want to consider a sofa with a removable and washable cover, which can ensure that it remains looking good regardless off spilt drinks and muddy pawprints.

Dining Chairs

If you have a dining table, you’re going to need seating to go with it. Fortunately, you’ll often find that dining tables come with chairs or have chairs specifically designed to be paired with them. But choosing the right chairs can often become a difficult venture.

At the end of the day, dining chairs aren’t often designed to be the most comfortable seating in your home - you don’t want to fall asleep with a mouthful of dinner. But at the same time, you’re going to want to make sure that they’re not too rigid or uncomfortable. You should also consider how easy they are to clean, as eating meals can result in spills and dropped food, which will need to be easily wiped off.

As you can see, seating is integral to any home - not only on a practical and functional level, but on an aesthetic and design level too. Hopefully, some of the suggestions above will help to get the ball rolling on your search for comfortable and suitable seating for your home!
