Domain Nightmares - Part 2

24 November 2015

ARGH! Just when I thought I had hit the epitome of stupid. Apparently I had not. I had only just hit the surface. If you are completely unaware what I'm talking about, I deleted my domain because I was apparently completely unaware about SO MANY THINGS. Like transferring domains, and redemption periods and their fees.

To give you a base run down, after I ever so stupidly deleted my domain. Crazy Domains has a redemption fee of $140 to restore the domain. I ranted and raved, then decided to pay the fee. You have to fill out a physical form with all the details and then photocopy and email it through.

I received confirmation that they received it, but no one did anything! It was suppose to take a minimum of 10 working days after they start processing the payment, and nothing was happening. They claimed they didn't receive the email, I sent them the order number that said they did, then oh yes they did receive it after all. Few more days, still no progress, no money taken.

Fuck it! I backorder the domain on another domain server, so that it would grab it when it came available. I can't really afford to spend $140 AUD on my domain, just because I'm an idiot. So I contacted the domain server and said whatever don't take the money, just leave it. Screw you guys basically.

35 Days. That was the wait for the redemption period to time out. Sick, I thought. I guess I'll just deal with the crippling loss of views and lack of readers until November 20th, grab my domain back and it will all be fine.

Someone should have knocked me unconscious and just taken over for me honestly. If I had a time machine I would go back and have never deleted my freaking domain in the first place!! Unfortunately that's not realistic.

Deletion day came and went, and I'm thinking okay Net Registry hasn't contacted me saying they've grabbed the domain yet. So what I wasn't thinking was, SOME ASSHOLE will grab my domain name and then try and sell it back to me or back to anyone really. But no I was wrong. So so wrong.

Apparently my stupid freaking domain name, of my tiny blog. The domain of PERMANENT PROCRASTINATION is now worth in the THOUSANDS of dollars! That's right thousands! They said I could pay 250 AUD to just get them to talk to the owner and determine a price. That's right that's not even the cost of getting the domain back. That's THE FEE of getting them to talk to someone else about it !! So now if you go to my domain, it has links to random shit, and then a big button on how to buy the domain. You can even submit an offer. I typed $150, because shit man I'm poor and how much is my stupid domain name even worth??

Fuck off they are mate. How is my domain worth anything to anyone that isn't me?? That's right it's not.

I am just so over it! Honestly! I'm going to come to terms with the fact that I may never get my domain name back. I'm still really pissed because of SEO reasons, there are a lot of links out there on the web that are now broken. But whatever. I'm grabbing a domain momentarily. Then I'll just be working on bringing my poor blog back to standard and hopefully regaining my lost readers, who can no longer access my blog.

So there you go. I write these angry domain related posts, about my stupid mistakes, so you don't have to make the same errors okay. I need to go do some yoga or at least play Animal Crossing to calm myself down.

  6. Oh my goodness! That sounds awful. How was someone able to grab the domain and now charge thousands for it? That makes no sense.
Then again, I don't understand much about domains and internet related jargon.
