Why You Need a Shampoo Brush

22 February 2019 2 Ocean St, Newcastle NSW 2300, Australia

I recently got given this gorgeous shampoo brush from my favs at Suki Hairdressing and I think the way that I wash my hair has forever changed.

The shampoo massager brush from the girls at Lifestyle Notion, has come into my life and is now a permanent addition to my shower and hair routine for both me and my boyfriend Josh.

The brush invigorates your scalp by gently lifting away dead skin cells and increasing the blood flow to your scalp.

The bristles in the shampoo brush are designed to really grip the scalp and give a lovely massaging experience.  You can control just how gently you use the brush and whether you like a deep head massage so really, it’s up to you to decide on the right pressure.

I mostly use mine in the shower while washing my hair. The belief behind stimulating your scalp is that the blood rushes to the follicles, nourishing them with what they need to encourage healthy hair growth.  Massaging your scalp using a shampoo brush scalp massager is also a very enjoyable experience. Who doesn't love a good head massage!

Shampoo brushes have various benefits:
  • Scalp massage can boost capillaries which increase blood circulation and moves oxygen and nutrients through to each strand of hair
  • It can stimulate hormone and oil-producing glands so the oil coats the hair too, moisturising it naturally
  • It helps to keep the pores of the hair and scalp open so they breathe freely, it can also help with crusty and flakey scalp caused by seborrheic dermatitis
These shampoo brushes are made for use in the shower whenever you wash your hair.  So you can use them as often as you wash your hair.  But always thoroughly rinse them out to avoid product build-up because if you don’t, they could distribute build up back into your hair.

There isn't any reason why these brushes should be damaging to your hair or your scalp as long as you use yours properly.  If you pull or tug them through your hair roughly, you will get resistance and you may cause some breakage.  So you should treat your hair with respect and go easy on them.
Other than that, these brushes are developed to help encourage healthy hair growth.

What do you think?
Would you give one a go?

Liquid Gold by Alpha H

4 October 2018 66 Glebe Rd, The Junction NSW 2291, Australia

Over the past few months, I had been having regular visits to Urban Skin and Beauty in the Junction, as I had documented here. My skin is still looking amazing from all the regular visits that I've had. But now that they have ended I need to keep my skin in top shape all on my own!

Nicole's treatments involve the use of a brand she loves and believes in, "Alpha H". Throughout my visits, I would always see the wide variety of Skincare that she stocked in the salon and I knew I had to get on board!

I finally took the plunge and purchased the "Alpha H Liquid Gold". But it wasn't much of a leap since this one of these products is sold each minute around the world! So it's already well renowned.
Liquid Gold is a resurfacing treatment. It uses a state of the art, low pH delivery system to effectively diminish wrinkles, pigmentation and sun damage.
The product works like an ‘overnight facial’ to brighten and revitalise tired, ageing skin, and radically improve the appearance of the complexion. Clinical studies show that in just 20 minutes, Liquid Gold decreases wrinkle depth, improves texture and increases moisture within the skin.

With a description like that and a reputation to back it up, it's no wonder I had to give it a go!

The way to use the product is on alternating nights after you've cleansed your skin. Moisten a cotton pad with the product (just think of it as applying toner) then wipe the product all over your face, neck and decolletage. You can follow it with a moisturiser or serum once your skin is touch dry, but for it to work at full strength don't put anything else on top.

I've been using it like this for almost two weeks now and my skin is still looking radiant. I have maybe one pimple, and it's likely due to that time of the month and all those hormones. Love a period breakout.

On the alternate nights, I've just been going ahead with a lowkey skincare routine. Including eye cream, a serum and moisturiser. Trying not to touch my face during the day is also key.

Some Facts About Liquid Gold
  • It's owned and manufactured in Queensland, Australia!
  • When you apply it to your skin at night it tingles momentarily… The reason is the low pH… and by dropping the pH of your skin we make it work harder to reset itself. That’s why your skin feels firmer in the morning because it’s literally had “a workout”! So while you sleep, your skin works out!
  • Alpha H doesn't test on Animals! But Liquid Gold isn't technically vegan as it contains Crossillk (Silk Amino Acids)

My skin feels and looks amazing anyway! This review is all my own opinion, mixed in with some product facts I found via the Alpha H website.

Newcastle Babes, if you're ready to give Liquid Gold a go, send Nicole a DM via her Instagram page
(You know to see if it's in stock first) or just straight up pop into the Salon in the Junction

Aveda's Beautifying Radiance Polish

28 September 2018

I'm here to give you a quick review of a new product that I've picked up at Suki Hairdressing and have been trialling. Suki now stocks a range of products from Aveda, including this delicious body scrub.

The Beautifying Radiance Polish is the most moisturising body scrub I've probably ever tried. My skin, especially my legs tend to get extra dry during the winter months. As they're hidden beneath jeans every day. They get super itchy! This is because they're so dry, and I'm often too lazy to do a full body moisturise like my poor body probably needs me to.

The packaging is easy to use whilst in the shower, with a flip up cap and not a screw top. Though last time I used it, I totally forgot and just unscrewed the entire lid anyway. Because well you can if you really want to.

The scrub is in a beautiful moisture-rich plant oil blend, so even though you're doing a scrub it doesn't feel rough on your skin. Flip the lid and start scooping it out and rubbing it on your skin.

I love to focus on the extra rough areas like knees and elbows. Then go nuts all over my legs, because that's generally the area I have on display and wish to be super soft and sleek.

Once you've given your entire bod a scrub a dub, make sure you rinse it all off before getting out of the shower. The scrub moisturises with a nourishing blend of certified organic sunflower, safflower and olive oils.

It also smells amazing, containing certified organic rosemary, lavender, bergamot and other pure flower and plant essences. This scrub is certified cruelty free, with testing only on humans.

After exiting your shower, towel dry your skin gently so as not to rub off any of the moisturising residue. I would recommend hanging around for a little bit, allowing the oils to soak in before dressing or hopping into bed. As I felt a little bit greasy straight away.

But it's all worth it in the end, as my skin was so super soft! Exfoliated and moisturised.
I can definitely recommend!

Thanks for letting me give this a go Suki!

Maintaining My Hair with Suki

2 August 2018 2 Ocean St, Newcastle NSW 2300, Australia

I've been writing for a little bit now about how I've Switched to Suki I'm sure you've seen! I wanted to tell you all about the shampoo and conditioner that I have been using to maintain my blonde ends but I somehow forgot to write this post after I took the photos for it! Oops!

I've actually started using a few different products on my hair, but these ones help to maintain my hair colour and the quality of my hair after it has been coloured.

Loreal Professional - Silver Shampoo

If you've got blonde hair, you should be using a silver shampoo. This shampoo will look purple but don't worry you're not about to dye your whole head!  This colour clarifying shampoo will brigten and renew your blonde or grey hair. The Gloss Protect System, enriched with amino acids and anti-yellowing agents, counteracts unwanted brassy tones. So I don't have to worry about my lovely creamy blonde ends going a gross colour.  I only need to use this once a week, or whenever I think my hair needs it really.

Loreal Professional - Smartbond Step 3

The Smartbond Conditioner is the take home third step in the Smartbond collection of hair products!
The first two steps include an additive to your hair dye, and a shampoo to make sure your hair is in great condition when it comes to applying dyes to your hair.

I can continue that treatment with the Smartbond conditioner! I don't use this all the time, I like to pair it with my Silver Shampoo about once a week.  It's enriched with ceramides to nourish, strengthen and repair my hair.

I do love that I can treat my hair and keep it looking salon fresh at home!
Check out how cute my hair is looking over on my instagram

Trying out Hair Products from Suki

23 July 2018 2 Ocean St, Newcastle NSW 2300, Australia

As you all would have seen, I've recently Switched to Suki. My beautiful hair now gets tended to by Hannah from Suki and I've never been happier! Each visit is a great chance for me to chill out, and get pampered. Something I don't often get to do as I'm often incredibly busy!

At my last visit I received a whole bunch of really rad products to help maintain my hair. So here's a quick little run down of what I got, what it does and what I think about it!

I'm not one to spend too much time on my hair in the morning so I need products that will work for my lifestyle. I like to do my makeup, and then neaten up my fringe and barely have to run a brush through my hair in the morning. As I often leave very little time leftover to do my hair before I'm meant to be out the door.

Here's a little run down of the products that I received. Everything can be bought at Suki on Ocean Street, Newcastle East. If you're not local, you should be able to find everything online pretty easy!

Tangle Teezer

This is my favourite brush ever! In fact I now own 2! Which is great because I'm always walking around with it and putting it down somewhere. I get a bit of anxiety when I can't find something, and I just don't need that before I leave for the day. These wonderful brushes detangle your hair with ease. Wet or Dry! If you've heard of them before, the hype is real babes! Get your hands on one and your hair will thank you.

Aveda Dry Remedy Hair Oil

Do not be afraid of hair oils! Your hair will love you for using them. They don't actually make your hair greasy unless you're using waaay too much! I get oily roots and dry ends, since I have bleached ends of my hair. You literally only need a few drops of the stuff on your hands, and then massage it through your hair starting at the ends. Say goodbye to dry hair! Another product you can use on wet or dry hair.

Kevin Murphy Anti Gravity Spray

This is my go to texturising spray now. I give my hair a spritz after I've washed it and it's air drying, and I also give it another spritz in the morning to revive my hair for the day. It helps absorbs oil (cya oily roots) and it lets me keep those curls that I love to have, in for days at a time! It also smells really good, probably from the Lavender oil!

Aveda Shampure Shampoo + Conditioner

Okay so all Aveda products smell amazing! I kind of feel like I'm at a spa when I'm just caring for my hair at home. That's the life that I want to be living. This collection of hair care is specifically for "Fortifying" and strengthening your hair. I use these two on rotation with my other shampoo & conditioner (which I'm just realising I never finished writing that post! oops stay tuned). Before I switched to Suki, I used cheapo products on my hair and trust me the difference is notable!

Kerastase Ciment Thermique (Heat Protection Cream)

Hello there I am a busy gal also a lazy gal. I definitely have some old heat protectant spray in my bathroom somewhere and you can bet your bottom dollar that I literally never use it. Anytime I'm straightening my hair or blowdrying my hair. I have not even spritzed my hair for a second.
This stuff, oh boy this stuff you plop a little dollop in your palm and you massage it through your freshly washed and towel dried hair. Then your hair stays protected until you wash it out again.
Look I just didn't even know this was a thing. Now that I do, I'm on board.

Invisibobble Hairband + Scrunchie

I've always seen these in action but I'd never actually given them a go.
Not only are they great, but I've been trying harder than I usually would to not lose them. (Compared to regular hairbands) Also Coco seems to find them less entertaining, so she hasn't immediately stolen and stashed them all away. There are a lot of reasons to love these! They last ages, they don't get wet and gross when your hair is all wet! They're super tough but they're friendlier on your hair.
The scrunchie I got also has the cool coil inside of it! I have had to double up hairbands in the past as most scrunchies just aren't that tough.

Notice a common theme between all of these products? Uh they're perfect for the lazy gal like me! I only need to wash my hair every 3 to 4 days. If I can help it (wearing it up with cute scrunchies help!)
Most of these products get applied in a flash, after I've washed my hair and it's all clean, and then I don't even need to apply them again. I only use the Anti Gravity Spray extra because it smells amazing and just to give my hair a bit of extra oomph.

A huge reason I don't own any hair products is because I thought they required too much effort on my behalf. Silly I know, but I already manage a bit of a skincare routine. So phew that's enough for me.
But it's actually very little effort?? If it wasn't then I probably wouldn't keep up with using them, so that's that!

Have you ever tried any of these products? Do you think you would! Leave a comment below! x

Mini Kylie Cosmetics Haul & Review

24 October 2016

I've been a fan of Kylie Cosmetics since I bought myself the Dolce K lipkit and loved it! I managed to get a hold of the lipkit after the pesky brush issues had been fixed so I had nothing but good things to say about it. I bought myself another lipkit shade a bit later, a pretty nude shade "Exposed". But I had been eyeing off a pinkier shade for a while. Something a bit more suited for the Spring weather that we're in.

When they had $5 international postage for 48 hours I decided that this was the time to strike. Why not get myself the Bronze Kyshadow Palette and Black Kyliner while I'm at it.

Here's how they went.

May Bellabox

9 June 2016

I'm always keen to see what's going to arrive in my newest Bellabox delivery! My package delivery guy goes, "Just your Bellabox today Tegan." What a legend. If you're new to the world of Subscription boxes, then here's the scoop.

Bellaboxes are nifty little boxes that arrive once a month with a variety of beauty products for you to try out. Most often you get sample sizes but on occasion you'll get the full sized product which is always cool. You also usually get a discount voucher to use to purchase certain products too. Which is a great motivator to buy products if you like them.

Let's take a look what I received this month!

April Bellabox

1 May 2016

This April I received my first Bellabox and I was really keen to see what goodies I would receive.
I was lucky enough to receive my first Bellabox for only $10! Which was definitely a large contributor to why I decided to finally give it a go.

So take a look at some of the goodies I received this month!

Kylie Jenner Lipkit - Dolce K Review

19 April 2016

So I finally got my paws on the famous Kylie Jenner Lipkit. It gets talked up and talked about quite a lot and for good reason. It's almost impossible to get, getting released at different times, and selling out within 10 minutes.

Not to mention it only being released at times convenient for people who live in the US. I got this baby at 7am, refreshing away until it was mine.

New Hair + Lush's R&B Hair Moisturiser

23 March 2016

If you're a follower of my instagram, (you should be!) then you would have seen that this month I changed my hair up again. I went shorter and I also went blonder on the ends. Something I have wanted to do for ages.

I also got my fringe cut shorter again, I love my blunt baby bangs. My new hair meant the ends had been bleached quite a bit, so they're a bit dryer and brittle than I would have liked so I need to get something really moisturising and good to put in my hair after I would shower.
